I have been loving the look of dewy skin. It looks so fresh, radiant and healthy – I am obsessed. While falling in love with this trend, I have found a few products that really help me to achieve this look. Going into spring and summer I think these are products that are going to become staples in my routine.
Skin Illuminators and Primers
My first step to getting a radiant, dewy complexion is to start with a good base. To get the perfect base I start with either a radiant primer, or mix an illuminator into my primer. These prep the skin and provide the perfect lit from within glow.
My favourite illuminating primer is the Smashbox Photo Finish Radiance Primer. This primer has hyaluronic acid and shea butter which provide lots of hydration for the skin. It provides a warm glow to the skin with it’s soft golden/bronze tone. I love wearing this product under makeup and over makeup. After I complete my makeup, I gently pat this product on the high points of my face for an even more enhanced glow.
My favourite skin illuminator to add into my primer or moisturizer is the Nude By Nature Sheer Light Illuminator. (I could not find a link to an online retailer that ships to North America, but my Canadian readers can purchase it at any Shoppers Drug Mart location.) I cannot get over how amazing this product feels on the skin. As soon as it touches the skin it instantly provides a cooling, and soothing, sensation that feels so amazing in the morning. It has oat extract that acts as an anti-inflammatory, hydrating and soothing ingredient – I am assuming this is what provides the amazing sensation on the skin. Plus, it has jojoba oil which is a hypoallergenic antioxidant that helps restore the skin’s elasticity – a product that looks and feels great on my skin AND will keep my skin looking young? AMAZING! It provides a warm glow that makes the skin look and feel so healthy. I find the best way to apply this product is with your finger tips. It really melts it into the skin and leaves a beautiful finish.
I don’t have many foundations that provide a dewy or radiant finish. My personal preference when it comes to foundations usually sits somewhere in between a dewy and matte finish – satin matte. I also have to set everything with a powder, so even if it is a more radiant finish foundation it disappears once I apply a power over top. To really amp up the glow in my foundations I have been adding a liquid highlighter to my foundation. I find that I can lock everything into place with a powder and still have that glow shine through with this magic blend. I do this by dotting my foundation around my face, then dotting the liquid highlight around and blend everything into the skin with a sponge. I don’t just reserve the liquid highlight for the traditional spaces on my face (high points – cheek bones, nose, cupids bow…) I dot it everywhere. It makes my skin look so fresh and healthy when I do this.
My current favourite is the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Light Wand. It is a squeeze tube with a sponge tip applicator on the end. The tip makes it easy to quickly dot it around my face. Plus, this product has a pretty intense glow, which softens to just the right amount of glow once blended with the foundation.
On the high points of my face I apply a powder highlight. This provides a more intense glow to the parts of my face that catch the light. The powder highlighters I am really liking are the Maybelline Master Strobe in the shade “motlen gold” and Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Killer Cheekbones Kit in the shade “light to medium”. Both of these are really pigmented, blendable and look amazing.
I always finish of my dewy skin look with a good setting spray. It helps to keep my makeup in place, or refresh it during the day, and to give a nice glowing finish to the skin. My favourite dewy setting spray is the Pixi Glow Mist. It is infused with 13 oils that help to hydrate, protect and nourish the skin. It is perfect for all skin types and can be applied before or after makeup. The one thing I really love about this product is that it doesn’t contain alcohol. A lot of setting sprays I have tried have a really high alcohol content which dries out the skin.
