Monthly Must Haves: April 2020

Processed with VSCO with s3 preset

With everything that has been going on lately I have really been missing sharing my passion for beauty. Previous to now, I have been fulfilling this passion with my day-to-day work in retail, but with all of the changes as a result of Covid-19 that is not my main focus at work these days. While I still feel very fortunate to be going to work on a daily basis to help Canadians stock up on essentials I really do miss sharing my love for beauty. To fill this void, I have decided to start posting on here again. What better way to start things off then by sharing some products with you that I have been absolutely loving lately. Here are my April 2020 favourites…

Klorane Mango Hair Mask Review

Klorane Mask With Mango Butter – I am a huge fan of Klorane hair products and this mask definitely didn’t disappoint. I was noticing that my hair was feeling really dry, so I decided to give this mask a try and it was perfect. It left my hair feeling soft, nourished and smooth. I also really liked it because it wasn’t heavy. I find sometimes that hydrating products can really weigh down the hair, but this still left my hair with body and volume. And it smells AMAZING!

Skyn Iceland Eye Mask, Patchology Eye Mask, Pixi Eye Mask

Eye Patches – During this time I have been looking for any opportunity to practice self care, even if it is just for a few minutes. One of my favourite ways has been with under eye masks or patches. I can pop them on while doing dishes or wear them during a Netflix binge. My dark circles have never been darker. I don’t know that the patches have really improved my dark circles, but they feel so good. I keep mine in the fridge, which makes them feel even more cooling and soothing. They also leave my under eyes feeling really hydrated and soothed. Some of my favourites are the Pixi DetoxifEYE, Patchology FlashPatch Restoring Night Gels and the Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels.

Vichy Mineral 89 Eye Review

Vichy Mineral 89 Eye – I am obsessed with Vichy’s original Mineral 89. When they launched the eye cream I was so excited to try it. I really love it, but I didn’t realized how much until I stopped using it for a little while and added in another eye cream. My under eyes got so dark and I thought it was just from everything going on right now, but then when I added the Vichy Mineral 89 Eye back into my routine I really noticed the brightening effect. I have never used an eye cream before and noticed a significant difference in my dark circles. This is an item I will definitely be repurchasing as it has become a staple for me. In addition to the brightening effect, I find it very hydrating, soothing and leaves my eye area nice and smooth. I also love that I can apply it directly on my eye lid. It makes a great base for makeup.

La Roche Posay Toleriane Tinted Cream Review

La Roche Posay Toleriane Sensitive Tinted Cream – My foundation preferences have changed a lot. I used to be a full coverage matte finish girl, but in recent months have loved using lighter coverage products that give a more natural skin look and leave a more radiant and dewy finish. This new launch from La Roche Posay has been my go to. It has light to medium coverage and leaves a beautiful finish that looks like skin. It doesn’t look like you’re wearing makeup, it is very natural. This product is also great if you have sensitive skin as it is a hybrid of sensitive skincare and tinted makeup.

Swatch of Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick in Rose & ShineRimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Rose & Shine – This is definitely my favourite lip colour for spring and it is less then $10. It is the perfect pop of pink that brightens up a look without being too overpowering. I also love the formula. It is so light that you barely feel it on your lips and it doesn’t feel overly dry. I do find that when applying you can only do one layer. If you try to do too many it starts to pull the product off your lips. I have tried darker shades in this range and I didn’t find them to be opaque enough, but the nudes and softer colours are great. If you want to see this colour in action I filmed my first IGTV video where I show you my go to spring makeup featuring this lip colour along with the La Roche Posay Toleriane Tint.

A-Derma Xera-Mega Cream

A-Derma Xera-Mega Cream – Between all the hand sanitizer and hand washing I have been doing lately my hands have been in rough shape. I pulled this cream from A-Derma out of my stash because it was honestly the first one I found and it has been a hero product for me. I apply a thick layer at night before I go to bed and put a pair of cotton gloves on over top. (I feel like the cotton gloves should also be a favourite this month.) What I like most is that I see results right away after just one application. It leaves my hands feeling, nourished soft and soothed. It has no added fragrance or harsh ingredients. It is a very clean and simple, but effective formula. A-Derma products are also safe for the entire family, vegan and plant based – I love when I know a formula I am putting on is super clean and safe.

Those are some products I have been loving lately. Have you tried anything new, or rediscovered anything from your stash that is a must have? Let me know in comment, or my latest post on Instagram.

Best of Beauty 2018

Happy 2019! To end off 2018, I thought I would do a little round up of new beauty products I started using in 2018 that have become a staple in my routine. There were some really great new products I fell in love with in 2018, especially at the drugstore. Keep reading for a full break down of some of my must have products for 2018.

Skin Care Products

La Roche Posay Toleriane Caring Wash – La Roche Posay launched a new cleanser within their Toleriane line in the fall and I have gone through at least two bottles since then. Although it was added to my routine in late 2018 I had to include it in this round up. It is a texture that is in the middle of  a milk and micellar water – more fluid then a milk, but not as liquid as a micellar water. I use this after removing my makeup to catch any extra makeup or impurities that my makeup remover may have left behind. It is fragrance free and extremely gentle. It leaves my skin feeling clean, but not stripped. It is fragrance free and safe to use on your face eyes and lips.

Avene Soothing Eye Contour Cream I refer to this cream as “the magic eye cream”. To be honest, I actually refer to a lot of Avene products as magic because they are so great for soothing or calming any kind of irritation. I started using the Avene Eye Cream after experiencing an irritation under both of my eyes – dry red flakey patches that were both extremely itchy and burning. This instantly took the uncomfortable sensations away. It also soothes my eyes if they feel irritated from my contact lenses. If you are someone who experiences a lot of sensitivity around your eyes, or are just looking for something gentle and hydrating definitely try this out.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant My best friend gifted me a trial size of the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and I don’t know how I survived before having this product. It is a powder you shake into wet hands that turns into a thick paste once combined with the water. You then massage it around your face and rinse it off. It is so gentle, yet so effective and you can use it everyday. It makes my skincare absorb faster and my makeup apply smoother. My pores look clearer and smaller, plus I find in get fewer breakouts since using this product. If you struggle with congestion on your skin, or can’t find an exfoliant that is gentle enough I highly recommend trying this one.

Foreo Luna Play Plus – As a die hard Clarisonic user, I was a bit apprehensive to try out a different facial cleansing device, but I was pleasantly surprised. First of all, I think this product is amazing for travel. It is really small, and can be dried off completely unlike my Clarisonic which holds a lot of water in the brush head. I also like that I don’t have to repurchase a brush head periodically and that it cannot grow bacteria because it is silicone. It also has a great battery life. I have been using it twice a day for approximately four months and have not had to replace the batteries yet. I also find this product keeps my pores looking clear and leaves my skin feeling clean. It gives a very gentle, but effective clean. If you are someone who finds the Clarisonic too harsh for you definitely give this a try because it is a lot more gentle.

Hair Care Products

Marc Anthony Grow Long Volumizing Texture Spray – If you read my Best of Beauty 2017 post, then you’ll know I love the Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dry Spun Finish spray. I am someone who loves texturizing spray and it was my goal to find a more affordable option for 2018. The Marc Anthony Grow Long Volumizing Texture Spray was the answer to my prayers. Although it is not an exact dupe for my beloved Bumble and Bumble Spray, it is a great alternative from the drugstore. The Marc Anthony spray is not too heavy, or wet and leaves enough grit in your hair to hold some texture and volume. It also smells great and is supposed to help your hair grow.

Ice Cream No Yellow Shampoo This is the best purple shampoo available at the drugstore. All my fellow blonde hair friends need to try this. I also recommend wearing gloves when using this because it is potent enough to turn your hands purple, but that’s what gives you the really icy blonde tone you want. I find it works so well I only need to use it every couple of weeks, or I dilute it with my regular shampoo in between. My hair stylist recommended it to me and I am so happy she did. I find it better then the high end one I was previously using and it was three times the price.

Makeup Products

Smashbox Super Fan Mascara –  The Smashbox Super Fan Mascara was one of the only new mascaras I tried in and truly loved enough to repurchase. I love this mascara because you can apply more layers to build up the volume and drama. I find it doesn’t clump even after a couple of coats and really separates the lashes while still building a lot of volume. It also doesn’t dry right away, so you have some time to play with your lashes a bit and get the look you want.

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Glowtion – This was hands down L’Oreal’s best lauch of 2018. After seeing so many Youtubers and Influencers raving about it I had to try it. My favourite way to use it is mixed in with my foundation. Since using it, I’ve been getting so many compliments on my skin. It leaves this natural and dewy healthy glow to the skin that is so incredibly beautiful.

Dermablend Professional Loose Setting Powder  – I have always been a lover of powder, but in 2018 I made the switched from pressed powder to loose powder. Previously, I have been scared of loose translucent powder after a terrible incident involving a photo with flashback. I am happy to report that there is zero flashback with the Dermablend Translucent Powder. It does an amazing job at setting my makeup and locking everything into place. All of my foundations wear really beautiful underneath and it doesn’t look heavy or cakey.

Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick  – The Maybelline SuperStay Liquid Lipsticks have had some mixed reviews, but I am a huge fan. I love them because I can put it on in the morning and it will stay put all day without feeling dry, flaking or transferring off. They are so long wearing that I have to remove them at the end of the day with a makeup remover. They are also super comfortable to wear – they do have a sticky feeling at first, but once they dry to a matte finish you can’t even feel them on your lips. These are probably my favourite drugstore product of 2018. My go to shade is “Lover” (linked above).

Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lipstick – My second most worn lipstick shade of 2018 was Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lipstick in the shade “Au Naturalle”. They discontinued this shade *crying emoji*, but I still wanted to mention it because I love the formula. It goes on really easily, is super pigmented and comfortable. My favourite thing about this is the applicator wand. It comes to a point at the tip and I can easily define my lips – it is perfect!

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Contour Duo – This was the only highlighter and contour product I wore in 2018. The contour colour has a slight sheen to it that adds a nice glow to the skin. It is not too glittery or shimmery, so it still looks natural on the skin. The highlighter is amazing. I have been using it as both a highlighter and an eye shadow. In the pan it looks pretty underwhelming, but on the skin it is a beautiful champagne highlight.

Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer – This has been one of my favourite eye liners for as long as I can remember, but I don’t think I have ever shared it on my blog. I have used Rimmel eyeliners for years and they are one of my favourites. They have a kohl formula which is creamy and not too dry so it doesn’t tug or pull while you apply it. It does not transfer and it is waterproof, so it lasts all day. Plus, you cannot beat the price!

Milani Eyeshadow Primer  – This was another great drugstore find this year. I like this one because it is affordable and works great. I didn’t realize how well it worked until one day I was getting ready quickly and decided to skip it. By the end of the day there was no eyeshadow left on my eyes and it looked terrible. It is super light weight and doesn’t have a lot of colour to it, so it is great for all skin tones.

That’s a look at my newly discovered favourite products of 2018. Were there any products you fell in love with last year? Let me know in a comment below!

Happy 2018,

Kaitlyn

Mask Monday: Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque

Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque Review

I finally restocked one of my all time favourite face masks, so I knew it had to be my next Mask Monday feature.

I first tried Dermalogica’s Charcoal Rescue Masque after a travel size was gifted to me by a friend, and it was recommended to me my aesthetician. This mask is really an all in one treatment. It brightens and detoxifies the skin through both physical and chemical exfoliation. It helps with all major skin concerns too – aging, dullness and break outs.

I really love Dermalogica because they are professional grade. They use the best ingredients available. This mask uses sulfur to promote cell turnover and binchotan charcoal to clear up impurities. Along with bamboo, hydroxy acids, volcanic ash and sea silt to help with brightness.  Plus, it is vegan, gluten free, cruelty free, paraben free and has no artificial colours or fragrances.

When I use a skincare product I like to see instant results. For me, I instantly saw a difference in the clarity and brightness of my skin. I love using this mask once a week to help maintain my skins glow, or to help clear up the occasional breakout.

Do you have a holy grail mask in your routine?

Mask Monday: Garnier SkinActive The Super Purifying Charcoal Sheet Mask

Garnier SkinActive The Super Purifying Charcoal Sheet Mask Review

Sheet masks are probably my favourite type of masks. I love that they come prepackaged, they aren’t super messy and you don’t usually have to rinse them off. Garnier recently came out with a bunch of sheet masks within their SkinActive Collection. I love anything to help with clarity and pore size, so I was really excited to try their Charcoal Sheet Mask.

When I first opened this mask I was surprised by the colour. Sheet masks are usually white, but this one was black. It is infused with powdered charcoal, which probably explains the colour. The sheet was also really saturated, more than sheet masks usually are. I was a little worried it was going to drip everywhere, but it wasn’t an issue. I actually liked that it was so saturated because I was able to spread it down my neck as well.

A problem I often have with sheet masks is that they are really big and don’t fit my face. This one has extra slits along your cheeks which was perfect and made it fit so much better. The slits allowed me to overlap the bottom and top of the mask to make it fit properly.

I applied the mask and removed it after 15 minutes (as per the directions). When I first took it off I wasn’t sure that I liked the mask. As I rubbed in the remaining mask solution my skin began to feel sticky. My skin continued to feel sticky for a little while afterwards. I also noticed that as the mask dried my skin started to feel really tight – similar to the feeling you get with some firming products. When I woke up the next morning my skin looked great and I definitely liked the results. My pores looked visibly smaller and my skin was clear and bright.

Overall, I really like this mask. I would use it again. I recommend that you don’t do this mask right before bed because it does feel sticky for a little while afterwards.  However, the sticky feeling was totally worth it for the end results.

Have you tried any of the new Garnier masks? Let me know!

Maybelline Total Temptation Review

Maybelline Total Temptation Review

Maybelline’s Total Temptation Collection had me as soon as I saw the blush packaging. The soft pink is so beautiful. As a result, I ended up with the mascara, eye and highlight palette and brow pencil… oops.

My favourite product by far from this line is the mascara. It has a very interesting formula. It is a really light moussey texture (I don’t think that’s a word, but let’s just go with it), which is what makes the mascara so great. The formula is light, so it is extremely buildable and it does not clump. I put 4-5 coats on and no clumps!! I love that I can layer coats, so I can quickly change my look from day to night by adding more mascara for a bolder lash look. The light weight texture also allows the lashes to hold a curl because it doesn’t weigh them down.

The brush is a really full bristle brush. The brush is really great in my opinion. It separates all my lashes while making them appear full and long. The only downfall is I do find the full brush is bigger then what I am used to (I normally use Benefit Roller Lash), so I tend to get mascara on my lid. I don’t think this is a downfall to the product, but more of an issue with my application technique.

The eye shadow and highlight palette is okay, but I don’t know that it is one of my favourites. I find the powders to all be really powdery – when I dip my brush in the shadow it breaks into a loose powder. Some of the colours are really pigmented and the shimmery shades look really intense when applied with a wet brush. I would say this one is a pass for me. I think there are better alternatives at the drugstore right now. If you are looking to try an eye shadow palette from Maybelline the new Burgundy Bar palette is AMAZING. Let me know if you want a review!

The Total Temptation Eyebrow Definer Pencil is a great drugstore alternative to Benefit’s Goof Proof brow pencil. They both have a similar teardrop shaped pencil. It has a nice creamy texture which allows it to easily apply to the skin without having to apply too much pressure. It also has four shades – really great for the drugstore.

The only thing I don’t love about this pencil is the brush on the end. It is a circular brush, which really isn’t practical. I find it doesn’t really blend well and I just don’t use it. For me, this isn’t a deal breaker. I just use a different brush to blend it out.

Overall, I am really impressed with the new launches from Maybelline lately. If I had to recommend one product from the Total Temptation Collection to try it is 100% the mascara. It is one of my new favourite mascaras and I am a hard person to please when it comes to mascara.

Have you tried anything new from Maybelline? Let me know in a comment below!

Mask Monday: Origins Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay

Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask With Rose Clay

This “Mask Monday” series is helping me rediscover some of my favourite masks. Origins Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay is one of my recent rediscoveries. I got this as a point perk at Sephora and I think I might invest in the full size once I finish it.

Origins Retexturizing Mask is formulated with Mediterranean rose clay, Canadian willow herb and exfoliating jojoba beads. It helps to clarify pores and gently exfoliate the skin. I also find it helps control the oil production on my skin.

This mask is one of my favourites because it makes such a difference with the size of my pores. I find it helps make them look smaller and less congested. It also leaves my skin feeling a lot more smooth, it reduces texture and leaves a radiant glow. It is a great weekly treatment to leave my skin looking and feeling smooth and healthy.

Dewy Skin Essentials

Best Highlighters for Dewy Makeup

I have been loving the look of dewy skin. It looks so fresh, radiant and healthy – I am obsessed. While falling in love with this trend, I have found a few products that really help me to achieve this look. Going into spring and summer I think these are products that are going to become staples in my routine.

Best Illuminating PrimersSkin Illuminators and Primers

My first step to getting a radiant, dewy complexion is to start with a good base. To get the perfect base I start with either a radiant primer, or mix an illuminator into my primer. These prep the skin and provide the perfect lit from within glow.

My favourite illuminating primer is the Smashbox Photo Finish Radiance Primer. This primer has hyaluronic acid and shea butter which provide lots of hydration for the skin. It provides a warm glow to the skin with it’s soft golden/bronze tone. I love wearing this product under makeup and over makeup. After I complete my makeup, I gently pat this product on the high points of my face for an even more enhanced glow.

My favourite skin illuminator to add into my primer or moisturizer is the Nude By Nature Sheer Light Illuminator. (I could not find a link to an online retailer that ships to North America, but my Canadian readers can purchase it at any Shoppers Drug Mart location.) I cannot get over how amazing this product feels on the skin. As soon as it touches the skin it instantly provides a cooling, and soothing, sensation that feels so amazing in the morning. It has oat extract that acts as an anti-inflammatory, hydrating and soothing ingredient – I am assuming this is what provides the amazing sensation on the skin. Plus, it has jojoba oil which is a hypoallergenic antioxidant that helps restore the skin’s elasticity – a product that looks and feels great on my skin AND will keep my skin looking young? AMAZING! It provides a warm glow that makes the skin look and feel so healthy. I find the best way to apply this product is with your finger tips. It really melts it into the skin and leaves a beautiful finish.

Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light WandFoundation

I don’t have many foundations that provide a dewy or radiant finish. My personal preference when it comes to foundations usually sits somewhere in between a dewy and matte finish – satin matte. I also have to set everything with a powder, so even if it is a more radiant finish foundation it disappears once I apply a power over top. To really amp up the glow in my foundations I have been adding a liquid highlighter to my foundation. I find that I can lock everything into place with a powder and still have that glow shine through with this magic blend. I do this by dotting my foundation around my face, then dotting the liquid highlight around and blend everything into the skin with a sponge. I don’t just reserve the liquid highlight for the traditional spaces on my face (high points – cheek bones, nose, cupids bow…) I dot it everywhere. It makes my skin look so fresh and healthy when I do this.

My current favourite is the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Light Wand. It is a squeeze tube with a sponge tip applicator on the end. The tip makes it easy to quickly dot it around my face. Plus, this product has a pretty intense glow, which softens to just the right amount of glow once blended with the foundation.

Powder Highlighters

Maybelline Master Strobe vs Charlotte Tilbury HighlighterOn the high points of my face I apply a powder highlight. This provides a more intense glow to the parts of my face that catch the light. The powder highlighters I am really liking are the Maybelline Master Strobe in the shade “motlen gold” and Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Killer Cheekbones Kit in the shade “light to medium”. Both of these are really pigmented, blendable and look amazing.

Setting Spray

I always finish of my dewy skin look with a good setting spray. It helps to keep my makeup in place, or refresh it during the day, and to give a nice glowing finish to the skin. My favourite dewy setting spray is the Pixi Glow Mist. It is infused with 13 oils that help to hydrate, protect and nourish the skin. It is perfect for all skin types and can be applied before or after makeup. The one thing I really love about this product is that it doesn’t contain alcohol.  A lot of setting sprays I have tried have a really high alcohol content which dries out the skin.

What are some of your favourite products to give your skin a glow? Let me know in a comment below!

Mask Monday: Neostrata Hydrating & Plumping Sheet Mask

Neostrata Hydrating & Plumping Mask Review

Neostrata’s Hydrating & Plumping Sheet Mask is something I have mentioned in a few posts, like my Best of Beauty 2017 post, but I have never actually reviewed. Today I am going to share why I am so obsessed with this product.

First, let’s talk about the price. This sheet mask runs for $8.50 at drugstores in Canada. In terms of price point it is on the lower end, but it doesn’t compromise quality. It also does go on sale regularly, so keep an eye out if your looking to get it for a deal.

This mask has pure hyaluronic acid and a mix of natural botanicals. It provides instant relief to dry and dehydrated skin. It enhances the skins natural moisture barrier and protects the skin from external aggressors.

This mask is perfect for anytime your skin needs a boost of hydration. I also love using it when my skin needs a little pick me up. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated, soft and plump. It refreshes the skin and leaves it feeling comfortable. This mask also feels cooling on the skin, so its nice and soothing. I think it will feel amazing in the summer.

Winter Evening Skin Care Routine

Winter Skin Care Routine

Seasonally, I tend to change up my skin care. This winter I have really noticed a lot of dryness in my skin. My skin usually falls on the normal to oily spectrum, but that has changed this winter. I am experiencing more normal to dry skin with a lot of tightness on my forehead. As a result, I have switched up my entire skin care routine and added in lots of new products to boost my skin’s hydration. Here is the regular routine I follow daily or weekly depending on the step.

Step 1: Makeup Removal

Removing your makeup is one of the most important steps in your skin care routine. Everything you put on your skin is absorbed through your pores. Without properly removing your makeup it is going to continue to congest your pores and cause long term damage such as premature signs of aging. I don’t know about you, but I am willing to do just about anything to prevent aging. So, let’s start with something easy like removing your makeup.

When removing my makeup, I do so in two steps. First, I use a micellar water followed by a milk cleanser. I wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis as well as sun protection, so I want to make sure I break down and remove all of those products. The micellar water does a good job at breaking down my mascara and heavy makeup, but doesn’t get rid of everything. This is why I follow up with a milk cleanser. It eliminates having to really rub my skin and picks up anything left behind by my micellar water. I also find a milk cleanser feels really soothing and is a nice little cooling massage for my skin.

I prefer a micellar water and milk cleanser because they don’t strip the skin of the natural oil. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated and comfortable – especially this time of year when I am more on the dry side.

Currently, I am using: Bioderma’s Sensibio H2o Micellar Water and Avene’s 3-in-1 Makeup Remover. Both are great for sensitive skin and come in large value size formats, which I appreciate.

Best Cleanser with Clarisonic MiaStep 2: Cleansing Skin

Once my makeup is removed, it is time to cleanse my skin. I always remove my makeup and clean my skin in two separate steps. You won’t see the same benefits doing it all as one step. Your cleansing products can’t work through the makeup and reach your skin to deep clean your pores.

During the evening, I always do this step with my Clarisonic Mia 1. I have had my Clarisonic for probably five years now and it is something I cannot live without. I have the basic one speed version. Since I have started using my Clarisonic, I have noticed an improvement in my skin’s texture and clarity. During this time of year it also helps to buff off any dry skin patches too. I switch back and forth between the Radiance Brush Head and the Sensitive Skin Brush Head. I find both and very gentle and not too abrasive on my skin.

When choosing a cleanser, I always opt for a super gentle gel cleanser that doesn’t foam. I find that foaming gel cleansers can be too stripping. I usually opt for Jouviance’s Cleansing Gel. It is paraben, alcohol, fragrance and soap free. It has a rich texture and leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed.

Gentle Exfoliators for Sensitive SkinStep 3: Exfoliating

I used to think using my Clarisonic daily was enough exfoliation for my skin, but I was very wrong. Adding both a physical and chemical exfoliator into my routine has made such a big difference. I have noticed the number and size of the blackheads on my skin has decreased and my pores look much tighter and less congested.

Every night I use Pixi’s Glow Tonic exfoliating toner. It has 5% glycolic acid, which works as a chemical exfoliator. When I first started using this it made my skin break out, but once I was over the break outs I noticed the biggest change in my pores. My skin looks brighter, healthier and refreshed. This product is magic.

A couple times a week I use Vasanti’s Brighten Up! Enzymatic Exfoliator. It has super gentle micro-crystals and papaya enzyme that work together to exfoliate the skin. I feel like this product is so underrated. It is so gentle, yet effective. I think everyone needs to use this exfoliator.

Step 4: Mask

A few times a week I treat my skin to a mask. I love face masks. They are a great way to give your skin a little extra of what it needs. The mask I use changes depending on how my skin is feeling that day. Some of my current favourite masks are Dermalogica’s Charcoal Rescue Mask, Neostrata’s Hydrating and Plumping Sheet Mask and Origin’s Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay.

Facial Oils for WinterStep 5: Facial Oil

Adding a facial oil into my routine was new this winter. During an extreme cold spell my skin was extremely dehydrated and uncomfortable. I was willing to put anything on my face to make it feel better. While watching some instagram stories, I stumbled upon a blogger’s nighttime routine where she applied a facial oil. Since then, I have integrated Korres Wild Rose Vitamin C Active Brightening Oil into my routine. I have also been testing out the new Lise Watier Sublimessence Nuit. Stay tuned for a full review.

Oils are amazing because they help to maintain and strengthen the moisture barrier on our skin. Oils also penetrate deeper into the skin because of their small molecular structure – aka instead of sitting on the surface of your skin the oil is absorbed deeper providing better long term benefits.

Best Serums and Treatments for 20sStep 6: Serums/Treatments

The serums and treatments I use regularly change based on the needs of my skin. I think it is such an important part of my routine because my skin changes depending on the weather, the time of the month, my diet etc. By regularly changing which products I am using I can give my skin exactly what it needs. Serums I am currently loving are the Clarins Double Serum, Vichy Idealia (my go to serum) and Korres Rose Brightening Face and Eye Serum. My favourite treatment is Vichy’s Mineral 89. If you haven’t tried this you NEED to. It helps stregthen, protect and hydrate your skin – amazing!!

It is important to incorporate a serum into your routine because they are your targeted treatment. They are highly concentrated in active ingredients (usually why they come with a higher price tag) and can target very specific concerns. Like facial oils, they also have a smaller molecular make up meaning they work their magic below the surface of the skin.

Moisturizers for Dry SkinStep 7: Moisturize

We are at the end of what may seem like my never ending routine. The last step of my routine is to apply a moisturizer. This is another product I switch up based on what my skin is feeling. I use a moisturizer on my face and a separate eye cream. Some of my favourite face night creams are Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep, Korres Rose Sleeping Facial and La Roche Posay Hydraphase. For the eyes I have been loving the Vichy Aqualia Eye Balm and Neostrata Fruit Stem Cell Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream.

I usually try to use a moisturizer that is made to be used in the evening. When we sleep our skin goes through a restorative process to repair and heal itself. Products that are made to be used at night work with our skin during its repairing and restoring state. I also opt for something a little bit richer just because I prefer a heavier texture at night and something lighter in the day.

If you are still reading THANK YOU for sticking with me. I do want to say I am aware that my skin care routine is pretty extensive. Your skincare routine should reflect what fits best in your lifestyle and should be designed to meet your skin’s concerns. If I had to say what I think is most important definitely make sure you have a good cleanser, exfoliater and moisturizer in your routine. These should be staples for everyone.

I hope you all enjoyed my post! I would love to hear about your routine in a comment below.

Mask Monday: Pixi Peel & Polish

Pixi Peel & Polish Review

Happy Monday!

For those of you that don’t know I am a total face mask junkie. My love of face masks has inspired a new series on my blog – Mask Monday. In this series, I plan to review a face mask I have in my skincare stash. This will hopefully help me to deliver content on a regular basis and help me use up some of my many face masks.

Pixi Peel & Polish is a mask and physical exfoliater all on one. It uses lactic acid, fruit enzymes and sugar to polish away dead skin cells. To use this product you apply it to clean dry skin. Let is sit for two minutes while the lactic acid and fruit enzymes work to lift that dull skin. Then, you can use your finger tips to massage the product in circular motions. You can feel the sugar gently exfoliating your skin. I add  a little bit of water to the skin before massaging the product around to make it a little bit less abrasive. After, you can rinse and pat your skin dry.

I am not a sensitive skin person, so I don’t feel much when using this product. Others have mentioned that they feel a slight tingling sensation. If you are someone with more sensitive skin I would recommend doing a patch test before applying it to your whole face.

This product is amazing! I have never used something before that has made my skin feel so soft. My skin feels like brand new! Even after the first use I saw that my skin immediately felt soft, smooth and radiant. All of the products I applied afterwards absorbed really quickly into my skin and my makeup looked flawless on my skin. I use this once a week as a quick little pick me up for my skin. It is a deeper exfoliation that helps to keep my skin looking and feeling healthy.

Do you have any Pixi products you love? Let me know in a comment below!

Happy Masking,
