Mask Monday: Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque

Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque Review

I finally restocked one of my all time favourite face masks, so I knew it had to be my next Mask Monday feature.

I first tried Dermalogica’s Charcoal Rescue Masque after a travel size was gifted to me by a friend, and it was recommended to me my aesthetician. This mask is really an all in one treatment. It brightens and detoxifies the skin through both physical and chemical exfoliation. It helps with all major skin concerns too – aging, dullness and break outs.

I really love Dermalogica because they are professional grade. They use the best ingredients available. This mask uses sulfur to promote cell turnover and binchotan charcoal to clear up impurities. Along with bamboo, hydroxy acids, volcanic ash and sea silt to help with brightness.  Plus, it is vegan, gluten free, cruelty free, paraben free and has no artificial colours or fragrances.

When I use a skincare product I like to see instant results. For me, I instantly saw a difference in the clarity and brightness of my skin. I love using this mask once a week to help maintain my skins glow, or to help clear up the occasional breakout.

Do you have a holy grail mask in your routine?

Maybelline Total Temptation Review

Maybelline Total Temptation Review

Maybelline’s Total Temptation Collection had me as soon as I saw the blush packaging. The soft pink is so beautiful. As a result, I ended up with the mascara, eye and highlight palette and brow pencil… oops.

My favourite product by far from this line is the mascara. It has a very interesting formula. It is a really light moussey texture (I don’t think that’s a word, but let’s just go with it), which is what makes the mascara so great. The formula is light, so it is extremely buildable and it does not clump. I put 4-5 coats on and no clumps!! I love that I can layer coats, so I can quickly change my look from day to night by adding more mascara for a bolder lash look. The light weight texture also allows the lashes to hold a curl because it doesn’t weigh them down.

The brush is a really full bristle brush. The brush is really great in my opinion. It separates all my lashes while making them appear full and long. The only downfall is I do find the full brush is bigger then what I am used to (I normally use Benefit Roller Lash), so I tend to get mascara on my lid. I don’t think this is a downfall to the product, but more of an issue with my application technique.

The eye shadow and highlight palette is okay, but I don’t know that it is one of my favourites. I find the powders to all be really powdery – when I dip my brush in the shadow it breaks into a loose powder. Some of the colours are really pigmented and the shimmery shades look really intense when applied with a wet brush. I would say this one is a pass for me. I think there are better alternatives at the drugstore right now. If you are looking to try an eye shadow palette from Maybelline the new Burgundy Bar palette is AMAZING. Let me know if you want a review!

The Total Temptation Eyebrow Definer Pencil is a great drugstore alternative to Benefit’s Goof Proof brow pencil. They both have a similar teardrop shaped pencil. It has a nice creamy texture which allows it to easily apply to the skin without having to apply too much pressure. It also has four shades – really great for the drugstore.

The only thing I don’t love about this pencil is the brush on the end. It is a circular brush, which really isn’t practical. I find it doesn’t really blend well and I just don’t use it. For me, this isn’t a deal breaker. I just use a different brush to blend it out.

Overall, I am really impressed with the new launches from Maybelline lately. If I had to recommend one product from the Total Temptation Collection to try it is 100% the mascara. It is one of my new favourite mascaras and I am a hard person to please when it comes to mascara.

Have you tried anything new from Maybelline? Let me know in a comment below!

Best of Beauty 2017

Kaitlyn from Buttoned Beauty's Favourite Products of 2017

Happy 2018! I finished off 2017 on a high note as a member of the jury for Fashion Canada’s 2017 Beauty Awards. I joined a group of fabulous ladies to help choose the best beauty products of 2017. In honour of Fashion Canada’s list, I decided to do a little round up of my own. My list features skin and body care, hair care, fragrance and cosmetic products that I used daily through out 2017.

Skin and Body Care Products

Best Body and Skin Care of 2017

Vichy Mineral 89 Vichy’s Mineral 89 has become an essential in my skincare routine. It has the highest concentration of Vichy’s Thermal Water and is infused with hyaluronic acid. It fortifies, strengthens and hydrates the skin. Mineral 89 protects the skin from external aggressors like weather, skin damage, stress and fatigue. Since I start using this my skin is a lot more hydrated, smooth, bright and it always feels so refreshed right after I apply it.

Pixi Glow Tonic This is a magic potion in a bottle. This exfoliating toner has 5% glycolic acid, aloe and ginseng. Since using this product, I have noticed such a difference in the smoothness of my skin and the size of my pores. It is one of the first products I have ever used that has made a difference in the appearance of black heads. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or stripped. Plus, it is safe for sensitive skin and not tested on animals.

Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator This year, I added a physical exfoliator into my skin care routine. This one from Vasanti quickly became my favourite. Brighten Up! has natural ingredients such as microcrystals, papaya and aloe which leave a bright and smooth glowing skin. Using this exfoliator has allowed the rest of my skin care products to absorb better into my skin and overall my skin has been clearer.

Neostrata Plumping and Hydrating MaskMy favourite face mask of 2017 was definitely Neostrata’s Plumping and Hydrating Sheet Mask. This is the perfect mid-week skin pick me up. It nourishes dehydrated skin and plumps the skin. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated, plumped and soothed.

St. Tropez Gradual Tan Body Moisturizer I never thought I would find a self tanning product that actually smells good, but this one definitely does. I love this product because it allows me to build up the colour of my tan and once the colour I want is acheived it is low maintenance. It lasts longer than the mousse self tanning products and fades much more gradually. I also find it super hydrating, it leaves my skin feeling really soft and it doesn’t transfer.

Hair Care Products

Klorane Dry Shampoo, Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish. Cake Dry Conditioner Spray

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish – This year, I moved up a level in Sephora’s loyalty program and it was just from buying this product. It has been my go to hair product for 2017 – I can’t even tell you how many cans I went through. Do you ever do your hair and then after feel like your hair needs a little something? That something is this! I curl my hair with a curling wand then mist this through the layers and then through my hair with my head flipped upside down. It adds the extra volume and effortless messy look I crave. Plus, I can quickly refresh the look throughout the day by fluffing my hair. I have tried so many texture sprays, but this is hands down my all time favourite.

Cake The Lock Smith The Lock Smith is a hydrating dry conditioner spray. First off, before I even tell you what this does, I need to address how incredible this smells – like the most delicious vanilla cupcakes. Whenever I use this in my hair I get so many compliments about how good my hair smells. Cake describes it as a “blow-out in a bottle”. It is a light weight dry shine spray you can use on your ends to revive second day hair. I use this daily to counteract the dullness that texture spray adds to my hair – it keeps my hair smooth, frizz free and shiny. The combination of oils add shine, hydrate and protect your hair.

Klorane Dry Shampoo I try to wash my hair as few times as possible each week. In between washes dry shampoo is a necessity for me. Klorane’s dry shampoo is my go to. I use the oil control version. It is specifically designed to absorb excess oil on the scalp and extend the time between washes. To use it I spray it through my roots, leave it for two minutes, then massage the product through the roots. I find this formula the most effective dry shampoo that doesn’t leave a feeling of residue in my hair, or make my scalp itchy.

Fragrance

Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris

Yves Saint Laurent Mon ParisI have never repurchased a fragrance before until this one. I originally won it through a twitter contest and quickly became obsessed. It is a sweet, but still mature scent. It has notes of white peony, raspberry, strawberry, jasmine, pear and orange blossom. It is a fruity floral that is soft, and feminine without being too sweet or too floral.

Cosmetic Products

Smashbox Cover Shot Palette, Benefit Blush Palette, Shiseido BB Cream, Stila Perla Liquid Lipstick

Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palettes –  The Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palettes were definitely my most used eye shadows of 2017. They are small and compact, which is great for a weekend away or travel. They also so affordable – you get 8 shadows for $35. The shadows are incredibly pigmented, blendable and one of my favourite formulas.

Shiseido Sports BB Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ Wetforce I am a big sunscreen advocate, but sometimes that extra step in the morning can feel like a lot. I absolutely love this foundation from Shiseido. It has amazing coverage for a BB Cream and has all the amazing benefits of Shiseido sun care products. It leaves a beautiful matte finish that hides the appearance of pores and evens out my skin tone. This is a year round essential for me.

Benefit Cheek Parade Blush PaletteThis palette was limited edition, but all the powders inside can be purchased separately. My favourite product within this palette was definitely the Hoola Lite Bronzing Powder. This powder is the perfect contouring shade for my fair complexion because it is a softer, lighter, colour. I can go more heavy handed or be a little more aggressive while applying it and not have to worry about it being too dark or muddy.

Stila “Perla” Liquid Lipstick – I have talked about how Stila’s Liquid Lipsticks are one of my all time favourite lipsticks. This year my most worn lipstick was Stila’s in the shade Perla. It was inspired by Katey MacFarlan from Chronicle of Frivolity. I follow her on instagram and snapchat and she mentioned it in one of her stories. After trying it I have been hooked… it must be a Kaitlyn/Katelyn thing.

That’s a look at some of my most used products of 2017. Were there any products you fell in love with last year? Let me know in a comment below!

Happy 2018,

Kaitlyn

Monthly Must Haves: September 2016

September Monthly Must Haves

September is one of my favourite months. Summer is just ending and you are beginning to transition into fall. You are getting back into routines and heading back to school, or in my case work, and the cooler weather is slowly arriving. This September, I made a lot of changes to my beauty routine. I always like to change things up seasonally to stay with the seasonal trends and give my skin the care it needs. This month I tried a bunch of new products and all my favourites are new things I have discovered in the past month or two.

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter, $6 – This highlight has become an everyday essential AND it is a super affordable drugstore find. I first bought it on a whim, just to try. When I got it home I swatched it and wasn’t super impressed, but decided to give it a chance anyway. I am so happy I did. Using a brush to apply it to the skin made such a difference in comparison to swatching it with my finger. It is extremely buildable and can really give you the kind of highlight that can be seen in outer-space. I am obsessed with this find.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation Shade 201 Classic Ivory

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation, $21 – I am ready to leave summer behind, but I am not ready to leave my glowing summer skin behind. I have been maintaining my summer glow with this foundation from L’Oreal, which leaves the most incredible dewy finish. It provides a very natural healthy glow to the skin. For a full review and swatches of this foundation, see my post here.

Dior Addict Lip Glow 005 Lilac Swatch

Dior Addict Lip Glow, $41 – I attended a training session with Dior to learn about their new Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet Fragrance (it is to die for). In the gift bag, I received the Dior Addict Lip Glow in the shade 005 Lilac and it is amazing. The Addict Lip Glows are a universal balm that react to the unique chemistry on each person’s lips to give them a pink flush that will suit their skin tone. It provides a sheer glossy wash of colour that is absolutely stunning. It is infused with wild mango and luffa cylindrica to protect and moisturize the lips throughout the day. This has been in my pocket or purse for the entire month. It can quickly pull any look together and I can apply it without a mirror making it the perfect low maintenance everyday product.

Vichy 24 Hour Hydrating Anti-Acne Treatment

Vichy Normaderm 24 Hour Hydrating Anti-Acne Treatment, $29.95 – For those of you that follow my blog on a regular basis you already know I am a huge fan of Vichy products. I tried this product out and immediately fell in love with it like the rest of the products I have tried. It is a moisturizer with 1.5% salicylic acid and LHA along with their air licium technology. This product targets shine, pore visibility, pimples and acne marks. The salicylic acid helps to clean out clogged pores by exfoliating deep in pores, LHA helps to exfoliate along the surface of the skin and air licium keeps the product super light-weight. I am not a chronic acne sufferer, but I do get the occasional break out. This has made a huge difference on my skin and I have been using it for just about a month now. Even after just 6 days of use I was receiving compliments on how great my skin looked. I find my skin gets less oily through out the day and there has been a big improvement in my skin’s texture and the size of my pores.

Have you started to switch up your beauty routine and found some new fall beauty favourites? I would love to hear about them in a comment below!

Happy October,

Cityline Beauty Event with Dave Lackie

img_3053

This past Friday, September 2, I had the exciting opportunity to attend a taping of Cityline with Dave Lackie – Cityline’s Beauty Expert. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Dave, where have you been? Just kidding! He is currently the founder of a luxury beauty digital magazine and a monthly guest on Cityline. Cityline is Canada’s most successful and longest running daytime show for women in Canada. They cover everything from, food, fashion, home decor to beauty.  The audience was full of fellow bloggers and fabulous twitter friends and I have to say, Cityline knows how to throw a party. I mean, who else has dance parties during their commercial breaks? They even hired a DJ just for our taping that day. This was my first time attending an event as a blogger and they have set the bar high.

The day started off with an amazing breakfast in the Green Room provided by Coty Prestige. It was definitely a hit among everyone. I somehow managed to miss getting a picture of the cutest part – the mini bagels! We had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast while mingling with other audience guests and fellow bloggers as the Cityline Team prepared the studio for our taping.

During breakfast Tracy Moore, the incredible host of Cityline, stopped in to welcome us all. I have to say, she is just as sweet and down to earth in person as you would imagine her to be. Her positive energy and enthusiasm lit up the entire room.

img_3019

Cityline’s Friday episodes are their “Fashion Friday” segment. Fashion Fridays are focused around fashion and beauty segments with their key experts shedding some light on what’s trending. Within this episode we got to see two fall fashion segments from Lynn Spence, an audience makeover, a Nivea Beauty segment, and a fall beauty and fall fragrance segment  (both from Dave Lackie).

Attending the taping really put into perspective for me how much time and effort really goes into putting a TV show together. There are so many moving parts that have to be in sync to make something like this work. Plus there are so many things they have to do that you don’t even consider, like the clips cutting in and out or all the previews/commercials that run prior to the episode airing. It really takes a huge team of people who work very hard, and who are incredibly talented, to make this kind of operation successful. We got the chance to meet the whole Cityline Team and they are amazing at what they do.

fullsizerender-38

Cityline and Dave Lackie didn’t let us leave empty handed either. They sent us away with an amazing gift bag valued at over $1200. I am still in a state of shock. This was so generous and I still don’t think I have said thank you enough yet, so THANK YOU!!! It was full of skincare, fragrance and beauty goodies. Stay tuned as I am hoping to do some reviews as I get a chance to try everything. If you see anything in particular you want me to review let me know in a comment below!

Dave Lackie Cityline Beauty Giveaway

The episode that I attended airs Friday, September 9th at 9am, or can be viewed live on Cityline.ca. Be sure to follow along on Twitter and Instagram with #CitylineBeauty on Friday. I’m sure it will be another crazy twitter party you don’t want to miss.

Again, I just want to send out another thank you to Dave, Cityline and their teams. This day was an experience I will never forget and I am so happy I got to spend it with you all. Every time I use any of the products, or wear the outfit I wore to Cityline, I will think back to this day and the amazing time I had. I am so grateful and thankful for the opportunity. It is a day that I will never forget.

Tune in on Friday,

Kaitlyn xo

Monthly Must Haves: August 2016

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, Nyx Butter Gloss, Benefit Goof Proof Pencil, Avene Skin Recovery Cream

I have mixed feelings about the month of August wrapping up. On one hand, I am so excited for cozy sweaters, fall fashion and there is something about a change in the season that feels like a fresh start. But, on the other hand, I am not ready to part with the warm weather and relaxed feelings that come along with summer. Either way, August is on its way out, and September is quickly approaching – I guess I’ll just have to embrace it. August seemed to be a month that I didn’t try a lot of new products, but rather discovered my love for the ones I have been using or rediscovered an old favourite. Here are my must have products for the month of August:

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil Shade 3

Benefit’s Goof Proof Brow Pencil ($30) – I am sure you’re all probably sick of me confessing my love for the brow products from Benefit, but I just can’t get enough. I have gotten so many compliments on my brows since these products came out. It has a tear drop shape tip, which at first was really strange to me, but now that I’ve gotten the hang of it I love it. The more pointed edge is perfect for defining the brow and the wider edge works great for filling the brows. If you want to learn more about the brow products see my full review here.

Avene Skin Recovery Cream

Avene Skin Recovery Cream ($34) – Sometimes, when I try new products it can go very badly. Like very, very badly. Like the time I over exfoliated my face, or the time I used a glycolic mask and wet my skin first (glycolic and water don’t mix – it results in burning). The Avene Skin Recovery Cream is my life saver, or I guess skin saver, when I have these little skincare mishaps. I will slather on a thick layer to my entire face, or even use it as a mask and it instantly soothes any kind of irritation and makes me skin happy again. If you are anyone who suffers from your skin becoming easily irritated, or you have common skincare mishaps (me), I definitely recommend testing this guy out.

Nyx Butter Gloss

Nyx Tiramisu Butter Gloss ($8) – This lipgloss is always with me whether it is in my pocket at work, or in my purse. It is the perfect neutral shade that goes with everything. It also has a really hydrating feel without being too sticky or heavy. If you’re looking for a low maintenance and easy to wear product I definitely recommend!

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette ($66) – This has been rotating in and out of my makeup routine forever. Whenever I bring it back out I always fall in love with this product all over again. There is something so flattering about the rose gold tones in this palette. I recently pulled this out of my collection again this month and I am so happy I did. The colours are beautiful, the pigmentation is perfect and it blends out so smoothly. I think I have all the UD Naked palettes and they are absolutely worth the price tag. They last forever and the quality is amazing. If you are looking for a good neutral palette I would recommend giving this one, or any in the Urban Decay Naked line a try.

Did you have any must have products this month? Let me know in a comment below!

Happy September,

Kaitlyn xo

Product Review: L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation Shade 201 Classic IvoryI am a foundation snob. I know some people can’t justify spending a lot of money on foundation, or are not overly picky when it comes to foundation. On one hand, I totally get it – seasons change and with that comes different textures of your skin and the need for different shades. For me, I have a really hard time using just any foundation and picking up whatever is on sale because a lot of foundations look terrible on my skin. I have combination skin that ranges from normal to oily. My t-zone is my trouble spot. It can get very shiny throughout the day and the pores in that area (especially on my nose) can be terribly exaggerated if I don’t pick the right foundation. They are something I am so self-conscious about. Plus, when my skin gets oily, it miraculously has the ability to make things oxidize on my skin aka my foundation turns orange and I channel my inner oompa-loompa. It wasn’t a cute look on Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and I can promise you, it isn’t a cute look on my face either. After testing out the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation, I think my skin has met its match and I have finally found a drugstore favourite.

L’Oreal added a new product to their Infallible line – the L’Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation in June-July. It is one of their 24-hour long wear foundations that offers a hydrating glow. They describe it as lightweight, creamy and long-lasting. It is said to apply smoothly with a finish that lasts and is recommended for normal to dry skin. It comes in 12 different shades, which when compare to the L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte foundations tend to be a little more of a pink undertone. (Pro Matte appears to have a shade selection that is more yellow toned). I found it very interesting that the shades were different between the two finishes. I expected it to be the same shades as the first infallible foundation, only with a glowing finish instead of a matte. In Canada, this foundation ranges from approximately $17-$21 depending on where you shop, but does go on sale for less.

After using it for a bit, I can totally say based on my own experience that Pro-Glow can be used on combination skin too. I was a little worried that it might make my skin look too shiny, but it wasn’t bad at all. It isn’t an overpowering dewy finish, it is more of a semi-matte finish. Semi-matte is so flattering on my skin personally. It isn’t so matte where your face looks flat or chalky, but isn’t so shiny that my face looking like a greasy mess.

I don’t think the product lives up to the 24-hour claim, because once I hit the 12-hour mark I was getting pretty shiny and the foundation was starting to separate from my skin a little. For me, that is normal and you realistically should not be wearing foundation for a full 24-hours.

The best application, in my experience, for the Pro Glow Foundation was with a brush. A brush made the product apply super smoothly and gave me the ability to build up the coverage a bit. I know there has been a lot of discussion on social media about the coverage of this foundation in comparison to the Pro Matte. The Pro Matte is much more full coverage, where as the Pro Glow is more on the light-medium range of coverage. I found it has a buildable medium coverage, that when paired with a decent powder can appear more full coverage. I took before and after photos to show you the coverage. Below you can see my skin without foundation, my skin with just primer and the foundation, and then a full finished makeup look where I have added concealer and powder for more coverage. I am wearing the lightest shade 201 Classic Ivory.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation SwatchesL'Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation SwatchesL'Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation Makeup Tutorial

I find the coverage perfect! If you compare the first image and second image, you can see it evens out my skintone, brightens my dark circles and cancels out any redness. The only thing I would really need any extra coverage for is to add a bit more brightness to my under eye area and cover up any blemishes.

Pros

  • Has the perfect amount of glow for my skin – a semi-matte finish
  • Has enough coverage to even out my skin tone
  • Super lightweight and feels light and fresh on the skin
  • No fragrance
  • Feels hydrating

Cons

  • The shades are different in comparison to the Pro Matte line (This wasn’t a con for me, but might be for some if you prefer the selection in the Pro Matte.)
  • Not a full-coverage foundation, more light-medium coverage
  • Higher price point for a drugstore item

Overall, I am super happy with this foundation. It lasts on my skin, has ideal coverage for me and has a beautiful finish. It feels amazing on my skin and I have gotten a lot of compliments on how my skin looks while wearing it.

Have you tested out the Pro Glow Foundation? How did you like it?

How Much is My Face Worth?

Everyday MakeupI read a post from Beauty By Catherine a couple of months ago where she did the “How Much is My Face Worth” Tag. She took a look at all the products she uses on a daily basis and calculated the cost of her made-up face. I loved it and hated it all at the same time. In one sense I felt relief that other people spend a good amount of money on makeup. But, on the other hand, my stomach flip-flopped at the thought of how much my face might cost. It was kind of eye opening for me to take a step back and think about how much I spend on makeup and what I use everyday. Today, as I was going through my makeup drawer and getting ready, I thought back to Catherine’s post and decided to share the value of my everyday face with you all. If you haven’t checked out Catherine’s Blog or her fabulous Instagram, I recommend that you do! She does a bunch of amazing beauty, fashion and lifestyle posts.

I will be the first to admit it is absolutely crazy that I wear $468 worth of product on my face. My brain is currently exploding with ideas of things I could spend that much money on. That is A LOT of money. Although, I do have to keep in mind that it isn’t like I went out and spend $468 all at once. These are products I have slowly accumulated overtime and I slowly repurchase here and there, or swap out for new alternatives (sometimes less expensive) as they run out.

I’m dying to know, how much is your face worth?! Let me know in a comment below or send me a link to your post!

Product Review: Vichy Aqualia Thermal

Vichy Aqualia Thermale Review, Chick AdvisorAs much as I love makeup, my true addiction is to skincare products. There is really nothing I won’t try when it comes to skincare if it means reaching my ultimate skincare goal – clear, glowing, plump, smooth, luminous skin. This desire to try pretty much anything has shown me the good, the bad and the ugly. The ugly being two nights ago when I tried a new face mask that left my skin lobster red and feeling like I had a sunburn. Something that didn’t turn out so ugly? The Vichy Aqualia Thermal products I have been trying out lately. My skin looks great!

Aqualia Thermal is Vichy’s product range that contains the highest concentration of Vichy Themal Spa Water. It is soothing and allows your skin to stay moisturized for up to 48 hours. The Thermal Spa Water helps to rebalance the skin by preserving the skin’s pH level, strengthens the skin to create a strong barrier and accelerates the regeneration of skin by speeding up the process of new cells coming to the surface of the skin. To see all the amazing benefits of thermal water check out my full blog post here.

About a month ago, I received three full sized Vichy Aqualia Thermal products from Chick Advisor to test. The products I received were the Aqualia Thermal Light Cream, Aqualia Thermal Dynamic Hydration Power Serum and Aqualia Thermal Awakening Eye Balm.

Vichy Acqualia Thermal Light Cream

The Aqualia Thermal Light Cream is, as you may have guessed, is a light cream texture. It is geared towards those with normal or combination (me) skin, with a concern for skin hydration. It is said to re-hydrate areas of the skin that are dry and/or dehydrated by evenly spreading water throughout the skin to lock in 24 hour hydration. This moisturizer also comes in a gel-water texture for more oily skin and a rich cream texture for those with dry to very dry skin.

My initial reaction when seeing the cream was “yikes”. I generally avoid cream textures as they can feel heavy on the skin and  I worry they will not suit well for my combo skin, but I was pleasantly surprised.  This product is sooo light and cooling on the skin. It absorbs instantly and leaves my skin feeling refreshed and hydrated.

Acqualia Thermal Dynamic Power Hydrating Serum

The Aqualia Thermal Power Serum is a lightweight serum suitable for all skin types. It has an ultra-light texture that softens and provides comfort to the skin without an kind of sticky or oily residue. The powerful formula provides hydration for 48 hours.

I love a good serum, so I was thrilled to see this little guy. It feels so good on my skin I want to apply it to my whole entire body. This is the perfect product for summer because during the summer months I don’t feel like loading heavy products on my skin. This product is so lightweight and provides so much moisture, which I instantly can see. During the summer it is so important to keep the skin hydrated, especially when we are losing water through perspiration. I also think it will be great for the winter months when the cold winter air is taking a toll on our skin and it needs a little boost of hydration.

Vichy Acqualia Thermal Awakening Eye Balm

Last, but not least is the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Awakening Eye Balm. It is an gel-cream that targets bags, puffy eyes and tired looking skin. It does this through re-balancing water distribution around your eye area. This leaves your eyes looking more refreshed and awake throughout the day.

I have actually already been using this eye cream in my routine since February. I struggle with eye creams. I don’t like anything too heavy in texture because I feel like it weighs down my eye area and sits on the skin not allowing it to fully absorb. This gel-cream texture is perfect! It is lightweight, absorbs super quickly and feels really soothing on the skin. I also really notice a difference on my skin when I stop using it for a day or two, my eyes look tired and the skin isn’t as smooth.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Pros:

  • All the products I used were light-weight
  • Left my skin feeling refreshed and smooth
  • I could physically see a difference in my skin
  • There is a variety of different product textures to meet the needs of each skin type

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Cons:

  • There is an added fragrance, which is strong at first, but disappears after application. It is a very clean and refreshing scent (this wasn’t an issue for me, but may be a con for anyone with fragrance sensitivity).

So, what is my overall verdict? I am really impressed with this line. Even after the first night of using it my skin felt different. When I woke up, my skin seemed brighter and it was so soft – I couldn’t stop touching it. To test out the level of moisture in my skin after using the product for a week I used the moisture checking tool in my local drugstore. Many large chain drugstores have skincare consult tools in store that the Beauty Experts in store can use to gauge the health of your skin. The tool I used reads the moisture level within your skin. I checked the level of moisture in my skin after using the product for a little over a week. Then, switched back to my previous moisturizer for a week and checked the difference. I noticed the level of moisture in my skin drop by five points. These products have earned a special place in my skincare drawer.

Monthly Must Haves: July 2016

Nyx Stay Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation, Nyx Dark Circle Eraser Concealer, Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector, Milani Baked Blush LuminosoAnother month has come to an end, which means I have found some more products to love. Here are some of the products I newly discovered in July and can’t live without. They have been on my face literally everyday. I don’t know how I lived without them.

Nyx Dark Circle Concealer – Dark circles under my eyes are my world’s biggest struggle. I have tried so many products and have had a hard time finding something that will conceal them. At the beginning of July, I picked up the Nyx Dark Circle Concealer on a whim after my best friend telling me I needed to use something with an orange undertone to correct my dark circles. The Nyx Dark Circle Concealer comes in four shades that are different variations of an orange shade. I use this product after priming my skin and before applying any makeup. It helps to tone down my dark circles allowing for my foundation and concealer to provide significantly better coverage. It is super lightweight and is infused with coconut oil. The coconut oil makes it extremely hydrating and lightweight on my skin. If you struggle with dark circles I recommend giving this product a try.

Nyx Stay Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation – This month I tested out a new powder from Nyx. I was in between shades in the powders I had on hand thanks to my self tanner and I decided to pick this one up. When it comes to powders I prefer something with a semi-matte finish. I want something that is going to minimize shine, but still gives my skin a healthy glow. I want to look like I have fresh healthy skin and not be overly chalky or matte. This powder is perfect for that! It has amazing coverage, helps to minimize shine without making my skin look too dry and does not crease. I have been using this to set the concealer under my eyes and it does not crease at all throughout the day.

Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector – This has been my perfect summer foundation. The Tinted UV Protector from Shiseido is light weight, has a matte finish and an SPF of 43. I’ve been wearing it with some concealer and powder over top and it is the perfect product for the warm weather. For a full review see my previous blog post here.

Milani Baked Blush (Luminoso) – This product was 100% an impulse purchase. I was in a store, not even supposed to be looking at makeup when I saw a Milani display. Milani cosmetics are hard to find in Canada, and their baked blush in Luminoso is a cult favourite. The Milani display was completely empty except for one single Luminoso blush sitting there. I took it as a sign that I had to get it because it was the only one left and it looked lonely – I am so grateful that I did. It is the only blush I have worn for the month of July. It is a beautiful warm coral shade that leaves a luminous finish on the skin. It is the perfect shade for summer and looks amazing on tanned skin. If you see this blush lingering around on a display, follow my lead and take it as a sign you need it in your life.
