Beauty Room Gallery Wall

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

After posting a photo of the new gallery wall I created in my beauty room, and receiving a lot of questions and requests for inspiration, I decided to do a post about it. For those of you that don’t know, I am very passionate about making my space my own. Even in temporary rental apartments, or student residences, I have always gone out of my way to decorate my space and really make it feel like my own. For me, it is so important to come home to a space at the end of the day that feels like home and is somewhere I enjoy spending my time.

After spending hours scrolling through Pinterest and pinning tonnes of gallery walls, I decided to create my own. I looked at a number of different ways to create my wall – finding prints in store, look at free alternatives online, and looking online to buy prints to be sent to my home. After narrowing down the alternatives I decided to purchase my prints through Etsy. The Etsy shops I chose allowed me to instantly download electronic files of the prints that I could then print at home or take to a print shop. I chose to take them to a print shop. It cost me around five dollars to print them all and I was able to print higher quality images then what I could do at home, and on better quality paper. The other great thing about Etsy is that a lot of the shop owners are willing to customize for you free of charge. Both the “Blend” and “Lipstick Swatches” prints were originally pink, but I messaged the shop owners and they were happy to make colour adjustments. This allowed me to really have personalized prints that fit my space exactly how I envisioned them to.

For the frames, I really did not want to spend a lot. I am a recent graduate and do not have a huge budget for decorating. I chose to look for frames at thrift stores, Value Village and Dollarama. I was able to get lots of unique frames that fit my colour scheme and budget.

There are a lot of different prints on Etsy, so feel free to explore other shops, but here is where I got the prints pictured above:

  1. Blend
  2. Lipstick Collage
  3. Bobby Pins
  4. New Underestimate the Power of an Eyebrow
  5. Lashes
  6. Lipstick Swatches
  7. When in Doubt Wing it Out
  8. Home is Where the Makeup Stash is

How do you personalize your space? Have you ever made purchases from an Etsy store for home decor?

Happy decorating,

Monthly Must Haves: April 2016

FullSizeRender (7)Another month has gone by – how is April over already?! With April coming to an end I have had another month to test out some products new products and rediscover some that have been hidden away in my makeup stash. Here are some of the products I have been loving for the month of April:

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge – I think I am always the last one to jump on the band wagon when it comes to tools for makeup application. If any of you have tried the Real Techniques Sponges, you won’t be surprised that this has made its way into my favourites this month. I love how they apply my foundation – it is like a second skin. It provides a smooth flawless finish and blends my foundation and concealer into my skin perfectly. If you haven’t tried these already I definitely recommend that you do. And, rumour has it, they are a great dupe for the notorious Beauty Blender sponge.

Benefit Hervana Box-O-Powder –  I am a huge fan of Benefit’s boxed powders. This month I added Hervana to my collection and I couldn’t be happier. It is the perfect blush for spring. It is a beautiful orchid shade that adds a stunning flush to the cheeks. It has four different shades inside, which you blend together before application. It applies smoothly to the skin without being overly powdery and has buildable pigmentation. It creates a very natural flush and is incredibly long wearing. I have been eyeing this one for a while and I am so happy I finally picked it up. I will be definitely wearing this one throughout the rest of spring and into early summer.

Nyx High Definition Concealer (Yellow) – This month, I put colour correcting to the test with the Nyx HD Concealer in the yellow shade. Yellow is really good for highlighting, particularly under the eyes. I have been using it under my eyes for the last month and it has made a huge difference. After applying primer, I blend in the yellow concealer with a damp Real Techniques sponge. Then, apply my foundation over top. It makes a huge difference and I find I am using way less concealer under my eyes. Sometimes I find concealer can crease under my eyes and look really heavy, but this one blends out really well and I use a lot less concealer, so it doesn’t look heavy.

Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume Collection – Volume is something I always desire in my hair, especially since most of the time I style it to be curly or wavy. This month I tested out Tresemme’s Pre-Wash Conditioner and Volume Shampoo as part of their Beauty-Full Volume Collection. I really love this duo. You use the conditioner first, followed by the shampoo. In using the conditioner first, it detangles and smooths the hair, while allowing the shampoo to wash away any of the added weight. This helps create volume in the hair while still giving your hair moisture, shine and smoothness. In testing out this duo, I also tried reversing other shampoos and conditioners I had on hand and had similar results – it created more volume in my hair. If you aren’t sure about investing in these products, try reversing your shampoo and conditioner you already have to get more volume in your hair.

What were your must have products for April?
