Monthly Must Haves: October 2016

Lise Watier Rustique Chic Palette, La Roche Posay Respectissme, Essie Gel Couture Jouviance Glyco Laser Soft Peel

October has been a really exciting month for me. I moved back to one of my favourite cities, started a new job and have been able to catch up with some old friends. Through all this excitement, I have been able to test out some new products and I have found some new must haves to share with you!

Lise Watier Rustique Chic Palette

Lise Watier Chic & Rustique Palette ($44) – I have been eyeing this palette since early August and I am so happy to finally have it in my collection. This is the perfect warm neutral palette for fall. The burnt orange shade that is third in from the left is STUNNING. These shadows are super blendable and pigmented. I have been wearing this palette non-stop since I got it. It is limited addiction for fall, so if you can still get your hands on it I recommend picking it up.  My favourite look is to do the gold shade all over the lid, the burnt orange shade in the crease, and then I deepen the outer V with the green shade. I am so obsessed with this look.

Essie Gel Couture Polish Swatch Striped with Style

Essie Gel Couture Polish Spiked with Style ($14.99) – This has been my go-to colour this month. It is that perfect deep red/burgundy shade that screams fall to me. I just recently did a full review on the Essie Gel Couture Collection here, check it out for more details on how the polish wears and my thoughts!

La Roche Posay Respectissime Makeup Remover Review

La Roche Posay Respectissime Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover ($19.50) – Removing my eye makeup is probably one of my least favourite activities. I have very sensitive eyes and often times eye makeup removers can irritate my eyes, or don’t entirely dissolve and break down my makeup. This makeup remover from La Roche Posay is a complete game changer for me. It is fragrance and paraben free, and is designed to remove makeup without any intense rubbing. This minimizes the risk of irritating skin around the eye area. I can say from personal experience all of these claims are true and I am obsessed with this product.

Jouviance Glyco Laser Soft Peel Mask

Jouviance Glyco Laser Soft Peel Mask ($40) – All the changes this month really took a toll on my skin. My pores were really looking and feeling congested and my skin has been lacking radiance. This mask was the perfect fix for me as it exfoliates, boosts radiance and resurfaces the skin. It helps to treat break outs, minimize pore size and provide visibly smoother skin. Jouviance Soft Peel Mask

Jouviance Glyco Laser Soft Peel MaskRecently, I have been testing out Jouviance’s Glyco Laser as home peel treatments, which sound scary with laser in the name and glycolic acid being a key ingredient.  But, before anyone gets too scared and clicks away I have to tell you, my skin has never been happier. My skin looks more radiant, smooth and even.

Jouviance’s Soft Peel Mask is formulated with 5% glycolic acid. It exfoliates, boosts the skin’s radiance and resurfaces the skin. It helps to reduce fine lines, fight photoaging and wrinkles. It will help reduce pore size, hyper pigmentation and sun damage, while treating blackheads and pimples. It is a product suitable for all ages and skin types (even sensitive).

Having recently over exfoliated my skin with a physical exfoliant (probably the most painful experience ever) I love that this product can exfoliate my skin without having to use a physical exfoliant. The non-drying formula uses BHA and AHA along with two earth clays to provide amazing multi-action exfoliation.

I use this product about once a week and I have noticed amazing results. I apply a thin layer for 10 minutes and then remove with warm water. It does have a slight tingling sensation on the skin that I really enjoy. It makes me feel like the product is really working on my skin. Instantly my skin is smooth, soft and glowing. It is an amazing product if you are looking for that instant gratification.

Jouviance Glyco Laser Soft Peel $40, Shoppers Drug Mart or

Post-Party Skin Survival Guide

face masks and purifying cleanserWith holiday party season wrapping up tomorrow, it is likely that some of us (myself included) may over indulge on the good stuff – if you know what I mean. I’ll be honest and say, on nights like those, I don’t always give my skin the care it needs before I make my way to bed with an order of pizza and garlic bread. The next morning my skin is usually saying SOS, and it is time to go into damage control mode.

To get the skin really clean, go for a good purifying cleansing gel. If your skin is feeling dehydrated opt for a purifying cleansing milk.  Tip: When using a purifying cleanser it actually works best if you massage it on the skin with warm water, and then let it sit for a minute or two. By letting it sit on the skin for a few minutes after application, the product has time to settle into your pores and really deep clean beyond just the surface of your skin. Here are my favorite purifying cleansers at the moment:

Jouviance Purifying Cleansing Gel & Milk, $24, Jouviance or Shoppers Drug Mart

One thing that I love to do the morning, or day after depending on when I roll out of my blanket cocoon, is to use a facial mask. Masks are great because there are so many different options that can target exactly what your skin is needing. If the skin is feeling oily, and your pores need some love, a mud mask or charcoal mask are a good go-to. If your skin is feeling dehydrated load on any kind of mask with hyaluronic acid. Did you know, hyaluronic acid holds 1000 times its weight in water? That is what makes it so great at hydrating! If you are looking for a mask here are a few of my favourites right now:

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask, $30, Sephora

Pur Mineral Dirty Girl Detoxifying Mudd Masque, $32, Shoppers Drug Mart

Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask, $20, Shoppers Drug Mart

Also, just an fyi, these are changes or additions to the regular skincare routine. Don’t forget to use a toner and moisturizer in conjunction with these products.  Happy New Year!
