Winter Skin Essentials

Winter Skin Essentials

This winter has really put my skin to work. As a result, I have put a lot of products to the test and found some of the best products to help get my skin through the winter. Are you having some winter skin struggles? Check out my must haves!

Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial

Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleep Facial This product is a super light souffle texture that melts into the skin. It is packed with moisture thanks to hyaluronic acid as well as having brightening benefits from vitamin c and Wild Rose oil. I love that this product doesn’t feel super heavy on the skin, but still provides a lot of moisture. I layer a thick application on my skin after I finish my regular cleansing routine and wake up with bright and hydrated skin.

Egyptian Magic

Egyptian Magic is a 100% natural product that is cruelty free. It is an all purpose skin cream that can be used for pretty much anything from a skin moisturizer to a treatment for burns and scars. I personally love this product for hydrating really dry skin on my body – like my knees, ankles and elbows. I find the texture a bit heavy, so it is perfect for those really dry skin areas.

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Lips

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Lip Cream has changed my life (I’m not even being dramatic). It is a barrier repair cream that helps to rebuild the epidermis (outer layer of skin on your lips). The core ingredients help to soothe and repair dry, chapped and cracked lips. I put a thick layer of the repairing cream on at night and the next morning my lips feel completely healed and restored. I don’t know how I survived using regular chapstick.

Lancome Juicy Shaker

Lancome Juicy Shaker has been my go to daytime lip product. With my lips being so dry this has been an ideal alternative to a lipstick or a gloss because it is a lip oil, which is very nourishing and hydrating. Plus, it is a super low maintenance lip product that leaves behind a subtle stain on the lips. I will definitely be purchasing more colours!

Avene Cold Cream Hand Cream

Avene Cold Cream Hand Cream I take this hand cream everywhere with me! It is the perfect size for my purse. It hydrates for up to 24 hours and can withhold 5 hand washes. This keeps my hands hydrated and protected from the winter cold.

Monthly Must Haves: October 2016

Lise Watier Rustique Chic Palette, La Roche Posay Respectissme, Essie Gel Couture Jouviance Glyco Laser Soft Peel

October has been a really exciting month for me. I moved back to one of my favourite cities, started a new job and have been able to catch up with some old friends. Through all this excitement, I have been able to test out some new products and I have found some new must haves to share with you!

Lise Watier Rustique Chic Palette

Lise Watier Chic & Rustique Palette ($44) – I have been eyeing this palette since early August and I am so happy to finally have it in my collection. This is the perfect warm neutral palette for fall. The burnt orange shade that is third in from the left is STUNNING. These shadows are super blendable and pigmented. I have been wearing this palette non-stop since I got it. It is limited addiction for fall, so if you can still get your hands on it I recommend picking it up.  My favourite look is to do the gold shade all over the lid, the burnt orange shade in the crease, and then I deepen the outer V with the green shade. I am so obsessed with this look.

Essie Gel Couture Polish Swatch Striped with Style

Essie Gel Couture Polish Spiked with Style ($14.99) – This has been my go-to colour this month. It is that perfect deep red/burgundy shade that screams fall to me. I just recently did a full review on the Essie Gel Couture Collection here, check it out for more details on how the polish wears and my thoughts!

La Roche Posay Respectissime Makeup Remover Review

La Roche Posay Respectissime Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover ($19.50) – Removing my eye makeup is probably one of my least favourite activities. I have very sensitive eyes and often times eye makeup removers can irritate my eyes, or don’t entirely dissolve and break down my makeup. This makeup remover from La Roche Posay is a complete game changer for me. It is fragrance and paraben free, and is designed to remove makeup without any intense rubbing. This minimizes the risk of irritating skin around the eye area. I can say from personal experience all of these claims are true and I am obsessed with this product.

Jouviance Glyco Laser Soft Peel Mask

Jouviance Glyco Laser Soft Peel Mask ($40) – All the changes this month really took a toll on my skin. My pores were really looking and feeling congested and my skin has been lacking radiance. This mask was the perfect fix for me as it exfoliates, boosts radiance and resurfaces the skin. It helps to treat break outs, minimize pore size and provide visibly smoother skin. For a full review of the Glyco Laser products see one of my previous reviews here.

Monthly Must Haves: June 2016

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, La Roche Posay Anthelios, Benefit Kabrow, Essie Gel CoutureJune was the busiest month for me with everything from graduation, to celebrating my birthday, to the prep for a close friend’s wedding. My posts, as a result, have been few and far in between this month. With a new month now underway, I am getting back on track by starting off with my favourite products for the month of June.

Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish (Sheer Fantasy) – If you read my monthly favourites post last month (check it out here), then you know I am going through a huge obsession with nude pink nails. It is such a clean and polished look that goes with everything you’re wearing. I think it is so incredibly flattering. This month, Essie’s new Gel Couture polishes launched and they are amazing! They are Essie’s take on the at home gel manicure trend that doesn’t require a UV light to dry the polish. Let me tell you, these are game changing! It honestly looks like a shellac manicure and it lasts for a full 6 days before any major chipping. So far I have only tried the shade Sheer Fantasy, but expect a full review once I have had a chance to test out a few more shades.

Benefit Kabrow – Benefit launched their new brow products in June and they helped my brows find their game. For a full breakdown of the new brow collection see my post here. Someone told me my brows looked “fleeky” – definitely a first. Kabrow is a cream-gel brow colour. It does an amazing job at defining and filling in my brows, while still keeping them natural. It is a super easy product to use that is amazing for anyone just starting out, or a seasoned brow expert.

La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Lotion – After working in the beauty industry for the past few years I have seen a whole new light to the reality of sun damage. This has turned me into a sunscreen addict. My favourite facial sunscreen is the Ultra-Fluid Lotion from La Roche Posay. It is a fast absorbing liquid with an SPF of 60 sunscreen that provides both UVA and UVB protection. It is extremely light weight, dries to a matte finish and wears flawlessly under makeup. If you are someone who isn’t a lover of sunscreen because of the heavy or oily texture I recommend giving this one a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Smashbox  Photo Finish Primer Water – This product has been a staple in my everyday routine for a while now, but with the warmer weather we have now it has become an essential. It is a facial mist that also helps extend how long my makeup wears, while having amazing benefits for the skin. It provides hydration and radiance which is perfect for the summer months when we all want glowing skin.

I hope you all had a great month of June! I would love to hear about your favourite products this month in a comment below.

Happy July,

Skin Benefits of Thermal Water

Vichy Thermal Water, La Roche Posay Thermal Water, Avene Thermal WaterI already know what you’re thinking, “It’s water in a can… why would I buy water in a can?”.  Trust me, I felt the same way as you. After doing some research and adding it to my skincare routine, I’m hooked. Not only does it have a million different uses, it also has so many benefits for your skin.

Let’s dive right into it, what is thermal water? It is rain water that is harvested from springs in France. The water takes years to get to the source where it is harvested. During this journey, it collects minerals and anti-oxidants from the earth that have incredible benefits for the skin.

Thermal water is amazing at soothing any kind of redness associated with inflammation. It can also soothe irritation and has the ability to balance the pH level on the skin (aka it can work as a toner). It can be used as a makeup setting spray, add hydration to the skin and cool the skin.

I love using thermal water through out the day. Working indoors, and over the winter, I found my skin could feel very dry throughout the day. A little spritz of thermal water helps my skin feel refreshed and reduce any feeling of dehydration. Also, during the summer it feels so refreshing on a hot day. In addition to use throughout the day, I also use it as part of my morning and nighttime skincare routine. I apply it after cleansing and before moisturizing. Applying moisturizer over top helps to lock the hydration, anti-oxidants and minerals into the skin.

Happy spritzing!
